A new Command & Conquer remastered collection is being hinted at

Command & Conquer fans got some good news this week. Over the years, the Command & Conquer series has been spread out across multiple digital platforms, with the only place to get all of them being EA’s own much-maligned Origin storefront. But in the last few days, EA has added all of the remaining C&C titles to Steam, meaning you can now own all of the games in the series on the biggest PC storefront. They can be bought separately or as part of the C&C Ultimate Collection.

But the good news doesn’t stop there, because alongside the games being added to Steam was a hint that another Command & Conquer remastered collection could be happening.

The games appeared on Steam alongside a message from Jim Vesella, a familiar name in the Command & Conquer community. Vesella is a Lead Producer at EA and was the person who first announced the Command & Conquer Remastered collection which packaged together the first two games with heavily updated graphics. Vesella became the face of the project and earned a lot of respect for being open and clear with the community about what they were doing, the choices being made and what to expect.

“How “did this come to happen? Well, a while back I heard some team members at EA had the desire to launch some of our classic titles on Steam. After hearing about this initiative, several of us proposed we include the C&C Ultimate Collection.” wrote Vesella on Steam. “We knew this has been a request of the C&C community for over a decade, and has been an equal goal of us passionate C&C folks around the company. As such, a dedicated strike team here at EA has been pushing to make this a reality – but we knew we couldn’t do it alone. So in the spirit of our community collaboration from the Remastered Collection, we reached out to a small group of the C&C Community to understand how we could best deliver the Ultimate Collection on Steam.”

It’s great to see the complete collection finally arrive on Steam, but there’s a potential hidden piece of information. At one point in his message, Vesella says:  “After the launch of the first C&C Remastered Collection.” Did you catch it? He specifically says the first C&C Remastered Collection, not the C&C Remastered Collection.

It could be nothing. It could just be a simple slip of the finger. It could even be a little bit of wishful thinking, a way of willing the project into existence, especially if these Steam releases pick up some traction, which they actually have been – Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 & Yuri’s Revenge has just under 7,000 players on Steam as I write this, and is one of two C&C games in the trending games on SteamDB.

Or it could be a very deliberate hint that Command & Conquer Remastered Collection Vol. 2 is real. Here’s hoping.
